What lifting weights will teach you about being a woman

At one point in my life, I was OBSESSED with being skinny.

I just wanted to be thin. ⁣

I just wanted to be smaller. ⁣

And I took every extreme possible to try and get there - I was running on the treadmill for up to 2 hours a day and I was eating about 1,200 calories (believe me, it was as awful as it sounds). ⁣

What happened? Of course I lost weight. I was starving myself and running my body into the ground (literally).

But also? My hair started falling out in clumps. I was sick all the time. I lost my period for over a year. And I was NOT HAPPY!!⁣

⁣Did I look good on the outside? Sure. But on the inside I was suffering.⁣

A smaller body does not equal a healthier or happier body

I learned my lesson the hard way – a smaller body does not equal a healthier or happier body.

Which is why I became a fitness coach who helps women shift their focus from LOSING weight to LIFTING weights.

I believe it’s much more empowering to focus on the things our body can do for us vs. soley just focusing on what they look like.

And my clients agree!

Here are a few things these women have learned about themselves….simply from “picking things up and putting them down.”

“I notice I am so much stronger, and I can do day-to-day activities with greater ease.”

Lifting weights will give you that strong and “toned” look. But more importantly, it will help you live your life with joy. Our bodies are meant to squat, hinge, lift, push, pull, and carry. And the more you can practice those things in the gym, the more you will do them with ease, in real life.

“Weightlifting has given me a newfound sense of confidence that I carry over into other areas of my life.” ⁣

Seeing changes in your body, and watching the gains on your lifts will let you know you are capable of *anything* with a little determination and hard work. Many women spend a lot of time focused on what they CAN’T DO. Lifting weights will help you focus on what you CAN do.

“Lifting weights has taught me that my self worth isn’t in my weight.”

Lifting weights will help you become more comfortable with your own power. And on days when you are struggling with low self-worth or lack of self-confidence…..you have a powerful point of reference – “I can do hard things.”

“I’m so proud of what my body is capable of and what I can accomplish.” ⁣

As women, we often spend way too much time criticizing our bodies, and not enough time celebrating them! Your body is incredible! – and weight-lifting will help show you that you can do WAY more than you ever thought possible.

“I’ve learned to not be so hard on myself.”

Lifting weights will teach you to become comfortable with failure. Reaching “failure” means that your body has hit maximum capacity – and that’s a good thing! Every day presents new challenges, but when you can remind yourself that failure is simply an opportunity for growth, everything in life becomes easier.
